Orbitz Rewards Review

Oct 01, 2023 By Triston Martin

Orbitz Rewards Visa offers a compelling option for travelers who don't want to be tied into one airline or hotel chain. Travelers can earn Orbitz Orbucks to book a hotel room at 350,000+ hotels within their network. The Orbitz Rewards Visa is a great travel card for family vacationers, business travelers, and casual sightseers. There's no foreign transaction fee or annual fee.

One of the greatest benefits of the Orbit credit cards is its incredible earnings value: 1 Orbucks equals USD 1. Orbucks are as valuable as cashback and can be used for any or all of your hotel bookings. There are no confusing redemption tiers and minimums. You can keep your earnings and redeem them for big vacations. Points don't expire as long your account is active at least once per 12 months.

Sign Up Bonus

The Orbitz Rewards Visa Card, like most travel rewards cards, offers a welcome bonus for new cardholders who spend a specific amount within a specified time period. Open an Orbitz Rewards Visa to receive a $100 credit. This bonus can only be earned once. Cardholders who have previously held the card and earned the bonus once will not be eligible for it again. Compared to other cards' bonuses, the Orbitz Visa sign-up bonus is average at best. These cards offer welcome bonuses worth hundreds of dollars and additional perks that increase the card's value.

One example: Chase Sapphire Preferred(r) Card allows you to earn 60,000 bonus points when spending $4,000 within the first three months of account opening. This amount is $750 when you redeem via Chase Ultimate Rewards(r). However, the bonus is only available to those who spend significantly more. The Wells Fargo Propel American Express card allows you to earn 20,000 bonus points for every $1,000 you spend within the first three months. This is a $200 cash redemption value. This is double the Orbitz Rewards Visa Card sign-up bonus, with a lower spend requirement. You will still get the Orbitz Rewards Visa Card bonus, including a complimentary Orbitz Gold status and other perks.

Earn Points

The Orbitz Rewards Visa Card has a great earning rate on travel booked through Orbitz.com and the Orbitz mobile application. You can earn as much as 9% in Orbucks when you make eligible purchases using your Orbitz Rewards Visa Card. This includes 8% when you book eligible activities or hotels via the Orbitz mobile application, 7% when you book flights and packages using the Orbitz App, 6% when booking at Orbitz.com, and 5% when you buy other Orbitz qualifying purchases.

Orbitz bookings are eligible for Orbitz Rewards Visa Card rewards that beat other cards' travel bonus categories. You can earn 2X, 3X, or 4X points for every dollar you spend on travel and dining bonuses. This is just a fraction of the rewards that you get with the Orbitz Rewards Visa Card. However, if you eat out often, the Orbitz Rewards Visa Card does not include takeout and restaurants as a bonus category. This spending falls under the "all other purchases" category, which earns you 2% in Orbucks back.

The Orbitz Rewards Visa Card is limited in its ability to redeem rewards for Orbitz hotel reservations. You can get more value from your points and miles by transferring them to travel partners, which is a benefit of general travel cards. This option is not available with the Orbitz Rewards Visa Card.

Redeem Rewards

Orbucks earned from eligible Orbitz bookings will be deposited immediately into your Orbucks Account. There are no minimum Orbucks required to redeem your rewards. Orbitz.com and the Orbitz app are only authorized to redeem Orbucks for hotel stays that can be used as "redeemable hotels." Orbitz defines a "redeemable hotel” as any hotel that displays an "Orbucks applied” message in its search results. Orbucks can be used to partially pay for a booking. You can only redeem enough Orbucks for a portion of the total. The amount you used will be subtracted from the total amount.
